The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) held its first Executive Committee meeting last Saturday at the Port Mourant Community Centre Ground, Corentyne, Berbice. At the meeting several decisions were taken to move the sport forward in Guyana.
At the meeting reports were delivered by the affiliates, while a special report was delivered by National Coach Levi Nedd with regards to the National U-19 Male Team’s visit to Trinidad & Tobago where they participated in a three match series against the twin island Republic’s Under-21 side. The Guyana contingent won that engagement 2-1.
President of the GVF Captain John Flores updated all present on recent developments within the CSV with regards to Beach Volleyball, Female Volleyball, Schools Volleyball and training of referees and coaches.
The President stated that the GVF’s primary focus in 2015 would be on female and schools development.
The Executive took the opportunity to resuscitate working committees to facilitate the smooth organizing of the Federation to achieve its aims. The Committees formed are – Selection – Levi Nedd (Chairman), Trevor Smith, Godwyn Allicock, John Flores and Leota Langford.
Competitions – Mark Bradford (Chairman), Godwyn Allicock and Raymond Archer.
Finance-Leota Langford (Chairman), Nicholas Fraser, John Flores and Rashaad Razak.
Fund Raising-Mark Bradford (Chairman), Alana Bose,Andrea Flores, Mahesh Motiepersaud and Shauntel Maloney.
Medical/ Legal- Arianne Mangar, Jason Johnny with others to be named.
Technical/Development- Nicholas Fraser (Chairman),Levi Nedd,Rashaad Razak,Odile Broomes, Marlon Pearson &Niketa Samaroo.
Disciplinary Committee – The President, Vice President and the presidents of the three associations (BVA, DVA & EVA)
Media- Gregory Rambarran, Mark Bradford & Alana Bose.
After the conclusion of the meeting, three presentations were held. Mikasa Balls and a net were presented to the Albion Volleyball Club, nets and Mikasa Kids balls were presented to the BVA for its Primary Schools “Cool Volley” Programme and Mikasa MVA 330 balls and nets to the BVA.
Prior to the commencement of the meeting the members inspected ongoing works being carried out on the construction of an outdoor court at the Port Mourant facility that was donated by the South American Volleyball Confederation (CSV) to the GVF. Several recommendations were made, with the facility being scheduled to be ready before the end of the month.
