Cricket Guyana Inc. (CGI) 12-tier-four academy is ongoing under Coaches Michael Hyles and Clive Grimmond. Thursday the players went through their paces at the Demerara Cricket Club.
According to territorial development officer Colin Stuart, the twelve (12) contracted players along with those not on tours (franchise players) undertake intense training sessions three days per week before returning to their respective clubs for weekend matches.
“This is being done with the aim of improving the fitness levels and the skills of the players using standard fitness guidelines,” Stuart said.
“Today game demands immense all-round ability so we want the players to become rounded and develop a culture of professionalism. The CGI hopes that the game will become more competitive locally,” stated Stuart.
He explained that they are looking at ways of increasing the salary range for the four-tier players. “Definitely with a high level of commitment we are likely to see a higher stage of investment for the players,” he posited.
Among the players involved are Robin Bacchus, Raun Johnson, Ricardo Adams, Kevon Boodie, Kemol Savory, Raj Nanan, Kandasammy Surujnarine and Gudakesh Moti-Kanhai.
