A man who allegedly committed a series of burglaries in the mining town of Linden was yesterday remanded to prison when he made an appearance before Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Leroy Nedd, of 640 Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, pleaded not guilty to a series of charges. The charges state that between August 12 and 14, 2014, at Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Nedd broke and entered the dwelling house of Veronica Headley and stole a quantity of articles valued at $290,000.
It was also alleged that between January 19 and 30, 2015, he broke and entered the dwelling house and store of Lester Bourne and stole a quantity of articles valued at $1,329,000, property of Bourne.
It is further alleged that between January 10 and 16, 2015, at Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Nedd broke and entered the dwelling house of Joseph Rose and stole a quantity of articles valued at $640,000.
Nedd, a mason was also accused of breaking and entering the dwelling house of Nickesha Fiedtkou at Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, and stealing a quantity of articles valued at $329,000 between January 29 and 30, 2015.
The defendant allegedly continued his felonious acts between January 25 and February 1, 2015 at Amelia’s Ward, Linden, by breaking and entering the dwelling house of Royston Leon and stealing a quantity of articles valued at $479,000.
Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry further read to the accused that between October 28 and 30, 2014, Nedd broke and entered the dwelling house of Leonard Jennings at Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, and stole a variety of articles valued at $4,465,000 and finally, between January 28 and 30, 2015, at South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Don Phillips and stole a quantity of articles totaling $195,000.
Prosecutor, Inspector Michael Grant, objected to bail citing the nature and penalty attached to such offences. He also pointed out to the court the value of the articles that were allegedly stolen. The prosecutor further informed the court that investigations are still ongoing and according to the police over $5,000,000 in items were recovered.
When asked by the magistrate if he had had any previous run-ins with the law, Nedd told the court that he was given a six months sentence on a simple larceny charge in 2011. He will make his next appearance on February 17 at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
