Play in the annual GUMDAC Open Doubles Badminton tournament served off on Monday evening last at the Queens College Badminton Courts with some exciting matches in the Mix and Open Doubles categories.
In the Mix Doubles which was in the Round Robin format, Guyana’s top male and female players, the brother and sister combination of Narayan and Priyanna Ramdhani was unstoppable, brushing aside the challenge of Jonathan Mangra and Abosaide Cadogan, 21-10, 21-12.
The Randhani’s also turned back the challenge of Nicholas Ali and Siya Persaud, 21-10, 21-13. The pair of Ali and Persaud took the runner-up spot in this category with victory over Mangra and Cadogan, 20-22, 21-18, 14-21.
In Men’s Doubles first round play, Haymant Ramdhani and William Holder took care of business against Akili Haynes and Christian Beharry, 21-5, 21-3.
In the quarter finals, Guyana’s top doubles pair, Narayan Ramdhani and Nicholas Ali was way too good for Tyreese Jeffrey and Lakshman Das to handle, the former wrapped up a comfortable win at 21-6, 21-7.
And Guyana’s ex-national players Gokarn Ramdhani and George Melville rolled back the years by defeating Tyreese Richards and Ransell Ramsaroop, 21-6, 21-7.
Competition is slated to continue today at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from 18:00hrs.
