The Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) will serve off its 2015 season with the annual GUMDAC Open Doubles tournament from Monday next at the Queens College Badminton Courts.
According to a release from the GBA, this will be the first of many tournaments the association has in store for this year. Players have been training for some weeks now with the best athletes in the land expected to face off.
Visits to schools nationwide with a view of widening the pool of players are on the GBA’s agenda this year and they are expected to commence this initiative in the Ancient County of Berbice, this month.
Participation at the regional and international levels is also on the tables and some of the competitions locals will be competing at are the Pan American Juniors in Mexico, Caribbean Championships in the Dominican Republic and the World Junior Championships in Peru among others.
Guyana will play host to the Easter Junior International which will see competitors from Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname and French Guiana taking part.
