The Trophy Stall Doubles Tennis Tournament with 34 doubles teams finally came to a close on Sunday
afternoon at the National Racquet Centre. Speaking during the Closing Ceremony, President of the Tennis Association, Ms Grace McCalman praised the players for their commitment and patience to properly conclude the tournament since it was suspended in December due to bad weather.
She reminded the players that doubles play forms the basis for club membership, growth and excitement. “Also, without tennis clubs, the GTA will have no purpose, so I hope that partners can establish permanence in their relationships which will help the sport to grow.” “Tournaments such as the Trophy Stall Doubles go a long way in creating interest at the club level and we must thank Trophy Stall for its fifth consecutive year of sponsorship.”
She congratulated the winners and reported that the first event for 2015 is the long awaited Inter Club Tournament which is scheduled to start during February.
Representative of the Trophy Stall, Ms. Alexis Barrington thanked the GTA for supporting their business for many, many years and related her appreciation for the way the sport is being conducted. She looks forward to Trophy Stall Doubles 2015.
The Closing Ceremony was attended by US Diplomat, Mr. Albert Razick who participated in the tournament along with his son Daniel Razick.
The final results: Men’s Open Doubles: Winner: Leyland Leacock/Nicholas Fenty; Runner Up: Khalif Gobin/William Spangler. Ladies Open Doubles: Shelly Daly-Ramdyhan/Nicola Ramdyhan, Runner Up: Denise Barrington/Kizzy Richmond.
Mixed Open Doubles: Winner: Leyland Leacock/Afruica Gentle, Runner Up: Orande Dainty/Aretta Dey. Men’s Over 35 Doubles: Winner: Godfrey Lowden/Omar Persaud, RunnerUp: Albert Razick/Bo Arbogast.
Novice Medley Doubles: Winner: Sachin Puri/Daniel Razick, Runner Up: Philbert Clarke/Diana Bharat.
