behind 40-36 victory over a fading East Canje Knights when play continued on Sunday in the second edition of the Anamayah Memorial First Division Basketball Competition in Berbice.
In the game which was played at the Vryman’s Erven Basketball court, the Knights were out early and raced to 15-5 for a 10 points lead by the end of the first quarter.
However, as the game went on it was clear that the Knights were being worn down and would have been in for a tough time. The first half ended with the Rockers closing the gap considerably to be behind 18-22.
The Knights attack was completely blanked as they flopped in the third segment scoring only one point as the Smythfield Rockers took control to lead 28-23 at the end of that segment.
The rejuvenated Knights line up made a game effort to fight back in the last quarter as they scored 13 points, but it was no stopping the Smythfield Rockers as they went on to win 40-36.
The men responsible for the Rockers victory were Jamal Felix with 20, Neil Watts 12 and Sherwin Braithwaite 8.
The top scorers for the wounded Knights were Kevin Emmanuel 10, Cledwin Cort 9 and Steve Roopnarine with three shots from down town for 9 points.
This is Knights first loss having defeated Rose Hall Town Jammers in the first game in the competition 47-43.
The competition continues on Sunday with Ithaca Hardliners taking on Hopetown Warriors at the Ithaca basketball court. (Samuel Whyte)
