Preparations are continuing for the much anticipated Jumbo Jet Sprint Classic, one day Pre Mashramani horserace meet in collaboration with the Rising Sun Turf Club set for Sunday 22nd February at the Club’s entity Arima Park, West Coast, Berbice.
With the horses benefitting from a long layoff due to this being the off season preparations have picked up pace with both the organisers and horses owners getting busy with race day getting closer.
Connections of the Jumbo Jet, Shariff, Elcock, Bacchus, Sooklall, Habibulla, Dookie, Jagdeo, Crawford, Singh, Velloza and Jagroop stables among others have all started preparations for the big meet. Entries have started to roll in and over 30 have registered so far.
The event has over $7M in prizes with nine races carded for the day with all the events being 1100M sprints.
The feature event for animals classified D1 and lower will see the winners taking home a sumptuous $1M and trophy.
The three-year-old event for Guyana and West Indian bred horses has $500,000 and trophy for the winner. The E2 event also has a winning purse of $500,000 and trophy.
There is $400,000 and trophy up for grabs for the winner in the G1 and lower contest.
A first prize of $400,000 and trophy is also available for the winner of the race for four year old animals.
The three year-old Guyana bred animals will gallop for a winner’s pocket of $250,000 and trophy. The winner of the H and lower race will also get $250,000 and trophy.
The event for I3 and lower animals will see the winner taking home $200,000 and trophy.
The final event is for animals classified J3 and lower for a winner’s money of $150,000 and trophy.
Entries close on Saturday February 14th.
The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
