Wendell Humphrey, a 32-year-old night guard appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday last, to answer charges of burglary.
Police are alleging that some time between January 25 and January 26, last, Humphrey of Barrack Retreat, Lethem, broke into Lam’s Gas Station at Lethem and stole GUY$1, 730,000 and R$350, property of Pauline Murray.
Humphrey maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the charge read to him by the Chief Magistrate.
Attorney-at-Law Jerome Khan, who represented Humphrey, explained that the police relied heavily on video footage which did not give a clear view of the person who carried out the act, and contended that it was not his client.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Michael Grant had no objection to bail, which was set at $125,000.
The matter has been transferred to the Lethem Magistrate’s Court and will be heard on March 9.
