Cricket Guyana Inc (CGI) has made good on its promise made at the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)
Jason St Clair signs his contract at the GCB office yesterday as the other players and CGI Chairman Raj Singh witness the signing.
Awards Ceremony in December to provide Academy contracts to 12 of the most promising fringe players in Guyana in addition to the sum paid each month to the 15 contracted players for the Guyana Jaguars when the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) players draft was conducted in Barbados last year.
“CGI is now extremely proud to make this a reality by announcing the award of 12 Academy contracts to some very promising youths and players on the fringe which is intended to keep them gainfully occupied and have them continuously working on their game and their overall development. These contracts may not seem as attractive as those awarded to the original 15 players retained after the draft last year, but CGI has made a conscious decision to increase our professional player pool which will serve to keep those in the top 3 tiers on their toes as this new Tier 4 Academy group will obviously be challenging for spots in the next draft expected to be held sometime in June of this year,” Chairman of the CGI Raj Singh said yesterday at the signing of the contracts at the GCB office at Bourda.
“Through prudent financial management, CGI was able to put aside at least USD5,000 per month to pay these additional 12 players, officials and other training and match relating expenses.
This progressive move will now guarantee 27 players an opportunity to advance their careers and professional development in a structured manner and create more opportunities for themselves and cricket in Guyana and regionally. A few other players were offered contracts but already had contractual obligations with some clubs in TT and made a decision to decline this Tier 4 contract at this time,” the GCB Executive added.
The 12 fifty thousand dollars monthly payments will come from the US$45,000 per month sent by the WICB to pay Guyana’s Franchise players and the CGI Academy players who have been contracted from February 1st 2015 until July 31st 2015.
Eleven of the 12 players awarded Academy Contracts were present for the signing of the contract, while Shemron Hetmyer, who has been selected for the Jaguars’ next three overseas games, is in Jamaica and missed yesterday’s signing.
The Academy players are: Shemron Hetmyer, Gudakesh Motie, Kandasammy Surujnarine, Jason Sinclair, Raun Johnson, Ricardo Adams, Keemo Paul, Raj Nanan, Robin Bacchus, Kevin Boodie, Kemol Savory and Steven Sankar.
These Academy players will commence their training on Monday, February 9th under CGI Coach Michael Hyles and Trainer Clive Grimond.
