New Era Entertainment (NEE) yesterday launched its second annual Mackeson Mashramani

Futsal Tournament, stating that in only the second year of the competition, they are declaring a growth in public interest and prize monies offered to teams.
“We had 12 teams competing last year and we have 16 teams this year. We have stepped up with our prize monies too; we gave the first place winner $200,000 last year but this year we’re giving $300,000,” NEE Director, Aubrey Major Jr. said at the launch.
The NEE second Mackeson Mashramani Futsal Tournament kicks off Friday night from 7pm and will run until February 21 at the Mackenzie Sports Club Court, Linden. The winning team will get $300,000 while the runner-up pockets $100,000.
The third place team gets $75,000 in the tournament with $25,000 set aside for the fourth placed team. Major also indicated yesterday that the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will receive a pair of Futsal sneakers and a trophy.
Mackeson Brand Coordinator at Ansa McAl, the distributors of the stout locally, Jamaal Douglas reiterated the company’s commitment toward the development of sport in Guyana and continued efforts to bring communities together through sport.
“We’re happy to be doing this tournament again as we continue to invest in sport and community development, especially in Linden,” Douglas said, adding that last year was a success and he will be anticipating an improved response at the event this year.
Another NEE Director, Winston Fraser, who chaired the proceedings, indicated that the response last year prompted them to usher in a second edition; “The people and teams are asking for it,” he said, adding “the whole of Linden wants to see this tournament”.
