Magistrate Sunil Scarce yesterday remanded 29-year-old jeweller Satyanand Rampersaud until March 3. Rampersaud is the
Hampton Court resident implicated in the deaths of 23-year-old Adrian Junior Osborne and 20-year-old Colin Anthony John.
The accused was charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving. The police have also leveled charges related to failing to stop after an accident, failing to render assistance and driving under the influence of alcohol.
It was pointed out in court that Rampersaud, who entered not guilty pleas to the three other charges, but was not required to enter pleas to the two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, had alcohol above the legal limit in his system at the time of the accident.
The prosecution objected to bail on the causing death charges citing that the offence is prevalent and punishable.
Magistrate Scarce did however granted bail in the sum of $30,000 on the charge of failing to rendering assistance, $25,000 for driving under the influence of alcohol and another $20,000 for failing to stop after an accident.
Counsel Heimraji Rajkumar told the court that his client has a stable place of abode and is the father of two young children.
Colin John and Adrian Osborne died early last Sunday morning after they were struck down and killed. The young men were walking to their Henerietta homes in the company of friends when they met their demise.
