The large gathering was reminded by one of the day’s highly respected speakers that “every single hour, every single day is a day of our beloved Prophet. Every hour, every day, numerous examples are taken from his life for those who believe and for those who do not believe, as everyone is committed to follow the examples set by the Prophet, as he came to all mankind”.
The event was a “first of its kind” Youman Nabi celebration at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence, and the venue was a hive of activity pertaining to and celebrating the life of Prophet Muhammad.
Gracing the occasion was Al Hajj Fazeel Ferouz, President of The Central Islamic Organization of Guyana, Imam of the Country’s most Central Mosque, the newly-built edifice on Church Street, Georgetown, and Imam, Al Hajj Shaheed Mohamed, among many others from the fraternity of Imams locally, as well as “Brothers and Sisters and many children of Guyana”.
Over 500 people attended the event.
The hosts were Br. Reeaz Khan and his family and the Bibeisa Sardar Charity Foundation.
The Imam of Queenstown in emphasising the life of Prophet Muhammad, touched on the importance of him being sent as a mercy to all mankind. Al Hajj Ferouz, the main speaker, noted that the event provided an opportunity for persons to be enlightened by messages from various Imams around Guyana, pertaining to Prophet Muhammad, and how they must live together with fellow Muslims and non-Muslims in peace and harmony.
Those present were also informed about the limits of freedom of speech and the effects of abuse, and why this should be dealt with appropriately and in a timely manner.
“We must take some time to speak and condole about the tragic event which took place in France recently.”
In addition, during the event, some of the families of the persons who died in the January 2008 Lusignan Massacre were presented with items such as mattresses, microwave ovens and much more, as were other less fortunate individuals.
After the presentations and speeches, attendees were treated to lunch. Al Hajj Ferouz, on behalf of Br. Khan, emphasized that it was the first of many such events, and will be an annual affair.
