Trinidad and Tobago-based Guyanese, Lionel D’Andrade placed second on Sunday in Port-of-Spain when he competed in the Trinidad and Tobago
International Half Marathon (TTIHM).
D’Andrade narrowly missed out on the top spot, finishing in 1:18:26 behind Trinidad’s Shayne Barran, who crossed the finish line in 1:18:15, 11 seconds ahead of D’Andrade. Kade Sobers of Tobago was third in a time of 1:22:34.
”I was in the lead and at the 12 miles mark, Shayne came from behind and we were running together and then at 600m he took the lead and I tried to take back the lead but I just couldn’t. I wasn’t really doing any speed work, just putting in the mileage,” D’Andrade said from Trinidad yesterday.
“I feel kind of good, my time was slow, so I’ll be putting in some more training for upcoming races,” he added. Compatriot, Kelvin Johnson was sixth in the Trinidad and Tobago International Marathon.
In the Women’s race, Trinidad’s Tonya Nero won in 1:19:30 while Guadeloupe’s Christelle Laurent was second with 1:31:34 and Trinidad’s Celine Lestrade third in 1:38:11. The TTIHM had 349 participants.
