DEAR EDITOR,
I noticed a media article captioned “President Ramotar slams British Diplomat …”
I am not here to pass judgment on whether President Ramotar or the UK diplomat is out of place or not. I just want to highlight the fact that the outgoing UK High Commissioner to Guyana Mr. Andrew Ayre, and former US Ambassador, Mr. Brent Hardt, are not “oddballs” who run out on their own, issuing reckless statements; they act on instructions.
In the British Foreign Office, similar to the US State Department, diplomats are only authorised to speak on such major issues upon the granting of full clearance in London and Washington respectively. They are just the messengers.
To highlight this fact, I have been observing the career of Mr. Brent Hardt since he left Guyana. He has actually been promoted in the State Department since he returned to Washington. I expect the same for Mr. Andrew Ayre. Out of place officials do not get promoted Mr. President.
Therefore, the Ramotar regime has again exposed how diplomatically unintelligent they are by issuing such ludicrous statements attacking the messengers. How can the Minister of Foreign Affairs, so badly advise her President? If the Ramotar regime has a problem with the message, they should address their concerns to the responsible officers, Rt. Hon Phillip Hammond, the British Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Secretary and Secretary John Kerry and tell them that they are “out of place”. Then we will see who really got “balanjee”.
But school bullies know when to “bad up” and beat up on the small children and when to put their tails between their legs and hide like the cowards they truly are. The PPP will never deal with the source of the message and address London and Washington respectively.
What the PPP does not know is the decision has already been made to draw up plans in Whitehall to introduce to the agenda of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group, a motion for the sanctioning of Guyana from the Commonwealth of Nations as a result of the continued prorogation of the Guyanese Parliament.
They have been now warned by messengers of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the US State Department. The line in the sand has been drawn; the PPP regime has to make a choice – they are either on Team Zimbabwe or Team Sri Lanka.
