Donford Williams became the first player to score a goal in the inaugural West Demerara Guinness ‘Greatest of de Streets’ Futsal Competition when he netted for Brothers United in their 1-0 truimph over Golden Stars as play opened on Saturday evening, at the Pouderoyen Tarmac.

Playing before a large crowd that included Regional Chairman Julius Faerber and Guinness Brand Manager Lee Baptiste, Williams etched his name in the history books after sweeping home a pass on the first attempt to give his side the lead after nineteen minutes and the advantage lasted until the final whistle sounded to hand them victory.
In the second game of the night, DeKinderen fired four goals past Vergenoegen All-Stars to send an ominous warning to all aspirants to the throne.
Darrel Alexis opened the scoring after seven minutes, splitting two defenders following a lobbed pass, before slamming a fierce shot into the right corner of the goal.
Stephon Dickson made it 2-0 in the 13th minute, firing a shot from close range into the goal and that was followed three minutes after when Ulric Bourne reached on to the end of a ball that was sweetly flicked on from the right side to boot it into an empty goal.
Exactly three minutes later and to sum up the All-Stars night, they conceded an own goal after a defender in his quest to clear the ball from the danger area watched in dismay as the ball sliced off the inside of his leg, before trickling over the goalline.
Uitvlugt beat Showtime 3-2 on sudden death kicks after normal time ended 1-1. Showtime made the perfect start in the shoot-out when Toine Lopes netted in their first kick. Uitvlugt failed to score on their attempt, before Kaide King stretched it to 2-0 for Showtime.
However, it was from here that Uitvlugt commenced their recovery with Colin Benjamin scoring.
Needing simply to score in their final attempt to seal the win, Showtime failed to hit the mark, offering Uitvlugt a chance to get back into the contest and they duly accepted, scoring on their next attempts to send the game into sudden death shootout which they won.
Earlier, Delon Layne gave Showtime the lead in the seventh minute, finishing into the right corner, before McGarrell gained the equaliser, netting with a smashing shot.
Host Pouderoyen Showstoppers looked impressive in their 2-0 win over West Side Ballers with Dexroy Adams netting his first of a brace in the 6th minute, before completing his tally with a fine finish in the 18th.
In the penultimate fixture of the night, Den Amstel beat Admiral United 3-0. Rondel Hutson opened the scoring in the 7th minute and returned in the 19th which gave them a 2-0 lead.
Jeffrey Perreira’s 24th minute strike was enough to guarantee victory and maximum points.
Majee Street eased to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Demerara Speedboat.
Morvin Henry started things for the victors when he unleashed a scorching right-footer that eluded everyone, before crashing into the goal in the after just two minutes.
One minute later, Kerron Schmidt increased their lead, netting in the lower right corner.
Patentia Street Ballers beat Raiders 2-0 thanks to an own goal and a Noel Walker strike in the 5th and 24th minutes of play.
Jetty gained a walkover from Young Warriors, who the Organisers have replaced with Police for the remainder of the tourney.
Action in the competition resumes tomorrow with eight more matches at the same venue, starting from 19:00 hrs.
Up for grabs is $300,000 for the winning team and the championship trophy, while the runner-up receives $150,000 and third and fourth place finishers $100,000 and $75,000 respectively.
