– Says PPP MP has his own motive
The principals of the H. Nauth and Sons Civil Engineering Contractors Firm has expressed shock and surprise with an article appearing in the media on Thursday concerning the execution of a road contract on the East Bank of Berbice.
The article stated that ‘Contractor slow off the mark on East Bank Berbice road’ and quoted PPP Member of Parliament Fizal Jafarally.
However, the contracting firm is debunking that article and states that work has commenced on the road since December.
They have solid proof to show and refer to a Kaieteur News article of Monday December 22, which states that ‘Work begin on the contentious East Bank Berbice Public Road’. The article was also accompanied by photographic evidence.
In response to the article, the company stated that they were awarded the contract to rehabilitate a section of the 25 miles stretch of road from Bermine to Lightown (12.2km) and not Islington to Bermine as was stated in the article, at a cost of $393M.
The company stated that after some technical matters were sorted out, they were given the go ahead to commence work in December. Work commenced almost immediately and meetings were held with the residents including the Chairman of the Endfield New do park NDC one Pastor Jude Ramkisoon who all expressed satisfaction.
Referring to comments made by Jaffarally in which he stated that “But it is so how some of these contractors behave! Why should the residents of East Bank Berbice suffer when we have the money—we signed the contract with you—Come and do the damn work.”
The story went on to state that ‘No work has started on the East Bank Berbice (EBB) roadway by H. Nauth & Sons Civil Contractors, more than two months after a $393M contract was signed.’
The company stated that it’s a shame since works has commenced. The company said that they would not comment on any further parts of the article since it would be a waste of time.
Explaining further, the company stated that after the technical matters were sorted work commenced immediately.
Survey and other aspects of the work were done. Further to that, the Christmas season was around and the workers took some time off. It was then into the rainy season, but work was ongoing all the time.
The company also stated that contrary to the article, they have not been given any contract to rehabilitate any road from BERMINE junction to Islington (12.2KM), But from Bermine to Lightown.
Also further checks showed that residents within the prescribed area have not expressed any anger with the project.
Another falsehood is that the Ma Retraite and Plegt Anker are not within the area that will be rehabilitated by the construction company.
To say that nothing was done was totally false and they are surprised that the writer of the story or the Member of Parliament never took the time to contact them even though they have a base on the East Bank of Berbice.
The company said that Region Six Chairman, David Armogan was on the button with his explanation and Jaffarally could have checked with him.
Armogon stated that the weather was a humbug and a lot of his workers had to go on their two weeks holiday with pay.
As can be seen from the pictures work is proceeding full speed ahead. Paving is expected to be done early in the new week where about 2 inches of asphalt will be spread above the existing work.
A media tour is expected to be undertaken to enlighten the citizenry of what is taking place.
