A 27-year-old man is currently nursing gunshot wounds at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
He has been identified as Colin Headley of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara.
Police in a release said that the injured man was standing on the roadway at Kaneville, when he was shot to his face and back.
Yesterday, when this newspaper visited Headley at the hospital, he was seen lying on a bed with medical personnel standing around him. None of his relatives were at the health institution.
A senior police official told this newspaper that based on information they received, Headley went to a party in Kaneville and just as he was about to leave, he was shot.
According to the official, the wounded man reported to investigators that while standing on the road, he heard a loud explosion, but had no idea he was wounded until he felt a burning sensation on his back.
He collapsed and was subsequently rushed to the GPHC.
“He was shot in his back and a bullet grazed his face,” the official said.
This newspaper was told that the man is in a stable condition at the hospital.
No one has been arrested as yet.
