Over the preceding year the many heads of the various sports organisations have been working assiduously to create the environment thus enhancing
the fortunes of their respective of charges. Even the uninitiated may readily recognize the prestige that can be accrued from occupying such offices but such a trait may be rendered inconsequential devoid of the necessary tools to precipitate positive changes.
It is around this time of the year that the members of the National Sports Commission convene to pay homage to those individuals and (sports) organizations that have been outstanding in their respective field.
When one examines the many aspirants and their feats, the work of the selectors becomes even more challenging. Nevertheless, the criteria establish the difference and it is this fact that has led the executive of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) to select their President for the prestigious acclaim of Male Sports Official of the Year.
Those executives in defending their choice said that Mr. Ninvalle’s performance has been exemplary during the period under consideration. General Secretary (GBA), Sean Richmond said that his executive had no difficulty in their choice when all things are taken into consideration. “Mr. Ninvalle has provided unlimited and selfless contributions, commitment and a unique mantra for the advancement of a number of sporting disciplines,” he said.
Among these disciplines are football, shooting and table tennis. Mr. Richmond singled out Ninvalle’s contribution to amateur boxing in particular, which he currently serves as the president of the GBA.
”Mr. Ninvalle’s dedication to sports goes without question and his current job portfolio as the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture Youth & Sports, is no doubt strongly cemented in an area close to the heart, since he previously worked as a sports journalist.
He is vice president of Alpha United Football Club, one of the leading football clubs in the Caribbean and Secretary of the Founding Board of the Guyana Sport Shooting Federation. He is also a current member of the United States Practical Shooting Association and the Steel Challenge Shooting Association,” concluded Mr. Richmond.
To strengthen his claim the GBA General Secretary said that Ninvalle continues to pilot development programs for general improvement of boxers, has overseen the successful implementation of numerous tournaments and systems amongst significant constraints including meager funding.
”He has been very visible and in the forefront of fund raising for each of those organizations during the period and under his stewardship, Guyanese teams have reinforced a strong identity both in the Caribbean and globally,” concluded
Mr. Richmond. Indeed, Ninvalle ended the year commendably after clinching a coveted spot on AIBA executive committee at their AGM in Jevu, South Korea and is the first amateur boxing executive in the Caribbean to have attained this prestigious feat. The GBA General Secretary asserts that such credentials are noteworthy and is truly deserving of the top accolade.
Meanwhile, the GBA also outlines several other nominations that those officials believe fit the bill for other categories being contested. These include Kristian Jeffery (sportsman) Cassie George (sportswoman), Jason Yaw (jnr. sportsman), Guyana Rugby Football Federation (most improved sports association and best sport association/federation), Vidushi Persaud (female sports personality), Guyana U-15 cricket team (sports team), Michael Benjamin (sports journalist print), Avenash Ramzan (sports journalist non print), Orlando Charles (sports journalist photographer).
