The launching and drawing of fixtures for the Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL) Inc. Republic Cup will be held on January 29 at GNIC Sports Club Woolford Avenue. Teams desirous of competing in the tournament which will be played at the Demerara Cricket Club, Everest Cricket Club and Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) grounds, are asked to submit their registration fees of $60,000 for both categories, to GSCL Inc Treasurer Russell Jadbeer (626 8228, 226 4205) or at 69 Seaforth Street, Campbellville.
The competition will be contested in the Open and Over-40 categories, with both divisions lasting for 20 overs and carries a first place prize of $300,000 with the runner-up taking home $100,000, along with trophies and medals.
Admission to all venues including Everest which will host the final on February 8 is free and playing conditions which will be distributed at the time of the launching. The first eight teams to register will be allowed to compete and entries will be closed today at 14:00hrs. For more information teams can contact Samuel Kingston on 614 9536.
Meanwhile, the Rafman Ali tournament is set to continue on Sunday with action in the open category at Enterprise ground, East Coast Demerara. Teams set to battle are Speed Boat, Farm, Princess and Trophy Stall ‘B’. The winning team will take home a trophy and $100,000 and the runner-up a trophy and $50,000.
The Over-35 division will resume after the completion of the Republic Cup. The first place team in this segment will win a trophy and $75,000 and the runner-up a trophy and $25,000. The man-of-the-match in both finals will also be rewarded.
