The Guyana Sport Shooting Federation (GSSF) has recently received a donation of trophies from Mrs. Luana Fernandes, Owner and Managing
Director of Woodpecker Products located at Lot 40, Fourth Street, Alberttown for their upcoming Practical Pistol competition this Saturday at the G.D.F. Timehri Ranges.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the GSSF at a simple handing over was President Ms. Vidushi Persaud who thanked Mrs. Fernandes for the support Woodpecker Products has given to local sport shooting.
Ms. Persaud commented that she has known Mrs. Fernandes for most of her life and is always enthused by the encouragement and support for sport Mrs. Fernandes continuously gives. The GSSF President is hopeful that other businesses in Guyana will emulate Woodpecker Products by making similar contributions to sports. She thanked Mrs. Fernandes for the beautiful trophies which she noted will be very much coveted on Saturday.
Mrs. Fernandes conveyed wishes of success to the Federation for a successful event on Saturday.
Board Members, Capt. Roul Bhudu and Treasurer Mr. Rohandev Persaud joined in thanking Mrs. Fernandes for her support and encouragement towards the GSSF which is dedicated towards encouraging and promoting sport shooting amongst all Guyanese.
The GSSF started its shooting calendar last Saturday by organising a pistol practice session for members at the GDF Ranges. Match Director, Mr. Ryan McKinnon noted that the divisions which will be recognised are Standard and Production, which will see Prizes handed out for the top three overall in each division.
Mr. McKinnon also indicated that the three stages for the Match will be open to all experienced Practical Pistol Shooters of Guyana and advised competitors to pre-register. Interested competitors wanting to come out to have some safe shooting fun, can contact any Board member of the GSSF, or can visit www.guyanasportshooting.com for further details or simply send an email to [email protected] indicating their interest.
Practical shooting is regarded as any type of sport shooting that involves engaging targets while having to move with the firearm. The handgun element of sport simultaneously measures the ability of the competitor to shoot rapidly and accurately with a full power (9mm/higher calibre) handgun in a fun, fair, safe, competitive environment.
Scoring takes into account three elements – speed, accuracy and power. Each match is made up of stages that seek to measure a shooter’s ability in all three elements and coordinated under strict safety guidelines.
