leading up to their departure next week.
The 27 players shortlisted will be encamped at the Palace De Leon Hotel, Public Road Kitty from 12:00hrs and will hit the road running with the first practice session scheduled for the Guyana National Stadium, Providence from 16:00 – 18:00hrs.
This will be the first assignment for the new Technical Director Claude Bolton and Head Coach for this game Jamaal Shabazz along with the Technical Team. Shabazz, who was at the helm of the Golden Jaguars Technical Team as Head Coach when Guyana did its best ever in World Cup qualifying (CONCACAF semis) has stated his pleasure in being back to lead the Jaguars.
This two game series against Barbados (the return game still to be decided) will also serve as a gauge for the Guyana World Cup squad for Russia 2018, last week’s CONCACAF draw in Miami resulted in Guyana drawing St. Vincent & the Grenadines in their first game in early June this year, both countries not being required to contest the first round.
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Normalisation Committee (NC) has been pulling out all the stops to ensure that the best possible team, inclusive of overseas based players represents Guyana going forward.
While the 27 players are all local based and will be vying for the available positions up for grabs, the local selectors have invited three overseas based players to the lineup; former captain and midfielder Christopher Nurse, defender Jamaal Smith and newcomer, Canadian forward Emery Welshman whose parents are Guyanese. The trio is expected to join the locals tomorrow.
The sessions are anticipated to be very competitive with the best team being selected to travel to the Land of the Flying Fish.
The other players called are: O’Neil Carter, Akel Clarke, Oswald Cornett, Omallo Williams, Travis Henry, Solomon Austin, Kris Camacho, Quincy Madramootoo, Trevon Lythcott, Dwain Jacobs, Amos Ramsey, Daniel Wilson, Keron Solomon, Sheldon Holder, Clive Nobrega, Colin Nelson, Dwight Peters, Tishard Joseph, Dwayne Lawrence, Domini Garnett, Travis Hillman, Rawle Gittings, Denver Dennis, Calvin Sheppard, Joshua Brown, Eusi Phillips, Vurlon Mills.
Technical staff: Jamaal Shabazz (Head Coach) Wayne Dover (Assistant Coach), Trevor Burnette (Equipment Manager), Faizal Khan (Manager of Administration/Commercial), Mark Xavier (Manager of Operations), Anson Ambrose (Trainer), Andrew Hazel (Goalkeeper Coach), Debita Harripersaud (Physio).
