A West Bank Berbice cane harvester who reportedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death last Saturday has been charged with murder.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on January 17, last at Rosignol Village, West Bank Berbice he murdered 19-year-old Shazina Mohamed.
Mohamed of Lot 53 Edinburgh Scheme, East Bank Berbice was stabbed about her body around 19:00 hours on Saturday in front of the Yang Yi Chinese Restaurant, at Rosignol, West Bank Berbice.
She had reportedly gone there with a male friend, who was in the restaurant purchasing a meal when Khalil cornered her. Reports are that the two had an argument during which Khalil brandished a knife and dealt her several stabs about her body.
The young woman was picked up and rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital. She was subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she succumbed.
Khalil fled the scene but was arrested on Sunday morning at his Shieldstown, West Coast Berbice home. Following investigations, he had been charged.
A post mortem examination revealed that Mohamed died from shock and hemorrhage due to multiple stab wounds.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Grace Bristol prosecuted the case. She told the court that the police are in possession of a confession statement made by
the accused.
Khalil was remanded to prison and he is expected to return on court on February 17.
