After a layoff of over a month for the off season, horseracing is set for a grand return on Sunday 22nd of February at the Rising Sun Turf Club, Arima Park, West Coast, Berbice.
The occasion is the Rising Sun Turf Club and the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales one day meet. Meanwhile, the organisers have put forward a number of changes to the day’s programme.
The meet is being dubbed the ‘Jumbo Jet Sprint Classic’.
Nine races are listed on the programme with all the events being 1100M sprints. A total of $7M is up for grabs.
The feature event will now be for animals classified D1 and lower and not D3 as was previously advertised. The winning prize is $1M and trophy.
The three-year-old Guyana and West Indian bred race will fetch a winning take of $500,000 and trophy. The E class event will now be for E2 animals and not E3 with the winner set to race away with $500,000 and trophy.
The G1 and lower animals have a $400,000 winning money and trophy to aim for.
There is a race for four year old animals with the winning take being $400,000 and trophy.
The three year-old Guyana bred animals will gallop for a winner’s pocket of $250,000 and trophy.
Horses classified H and lower will also be competing for take home money of $250,000 and trophy. The event for I3 and lower animals will see the winner taking home $200,000 and trophy.
The final event is for animals classified J3 and lower for a pole position taking of $150,000 and trophy.
Entries are expected to be closed on Saturday February 14th and no late entries will be accepted. The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
