Last Saturday marked three years since 33-year-old Rushell Rodney was murdered by her husband who later fled to Cayenne, French Guiana, and has not been heard from since.
At least this is according to the dead woman’s mother, Evette McDonald during an interview with this newspaper yesterday.
On January 17, 2012 the body of the mother of two, was found lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen of her Blankenburg Executive Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara (WCD) house.
The shocking discovery was made by the woman’s 11-year-old son, shortly after noon when he went home from school for lunch.
Yesterday, McDonald said that although three years have passed since her daughter was killed; the pain of losing her is still fresh in the heart of her loved ones.
“Her children still miss her a lot, they still think about what happened to her. We think about her all the time. I don’t know why he had to do that to my daughter,” the mother said
When asked what may have caused the argument that led to her daughter’s untimely demise, the elderly woman said that the suspect thought that the woman was having an affair.
“He was a seaman and then he was laid off from his job, so my daughter went into the interior to help me out because we got business there…he said someone told him that my daughter had some man jumping out her bedroom window and the windows grill up so maybe is a ghost jump out,” McDonald lamented.
The woman lashed out at the police for the way they have been dealing with her daughter’s case.
“Since my daughter was killed, the police did not contact me and when I make contact with them, they don’t have anything to tell me,” the woman related.
She said that she had hoped that the local ranks would have contacted their counterparts in Cayenne to assist in locating the suspect, but that was clearly not done since it has been three years and her daughter’s killer is roaming.
Kaieteur News was told that immediately after her daughter’s body was discovered; the police had launched a massive manhunt for the woman’s husband, 34-year-old Shawn Rodney, but was later informed, that he might have travelled to Suriname en route to French Guiana.
The car he used (licence plate PNN 9420) was found abandoned at Carlton Hall, Mahaicony a few hours after the woman’s body was discovered.
It is believed that the suspect joined a minibus for the remainder of his journey out of Guyana.
The suspect had also abducted a six-year-old nephew of his dead wife who had witnessed the murder. The child was only released when the suspect embarked a boat at Moleson Creek.
