The cricket teams of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) on Thursday last presented $100,000 worth of cricket scorebooks to the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) as part of the club’s year long Silver Jubilee celebrations.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster at the presentation said that the assistance to Berbice cricket would be one of the hallmarks of the Silver Jubilee celebrations. Foster, who has stepped down as chairman of the BCB Specials Events Committee to concentrate on his RHTYSC duties, disclosed that over the last ten years his organisation has donated close to $10 million worth of items to cricket clubs across the Ancient County.
The club, he stated is committed to the development of cricket in Berbice and proudly stated that they are the only cricket club in Guyana that seeks to assist others to develop themselves. The sad state of West Indies cricket requires every stakeholder to work hard to reverse the situation and Foster stated that some clubs were only interested in themselves with no concern over other clubs who were struggling to survive.
Overseeing over 700 programmes and activities during his 7 years at the helm of the BCB Special Events Committee, Foster wished the new BCB administration every success in the future while urging them to serve with pride, dedication and never to put their personal interests above the welfare of the youths that were elected to serve.
BCB President Anil Beharry expressed gratitude to the RHTY&SC and its cricket teams for the donation of the scorebooks stating that Berbice cricket has benefitted greatly from the outstanding work of the club. He praised Foster for his outstanding contribution to the sport in Berbice.
Beharry disclosed that the scorebooks would be distributed to clubs across the county for use at the senior and junior levels.
The teams making the donation were the RHT Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Gizmos and Gadgets Under-21 and First Division and Metro Females.
