A Nepalese man, who claims he came to these shores for a vacation, was fined $30,000 on an illegal entry
charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Twenty seven-year-old Keshab Prashad Bastola of Nepal pleaded guilty before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry and was ordered to pay the fine or face one month in jail.
The charge instituted against Bastola detailed that on January 7 at Springlands, Corentyne, Berbice, he entered Guyana by sea and disembarked without the consent of an Immigration Officer.
Bastola told the court that he came to Guyana from Suriname for a vacation but when he arrived, he did not see any Immigration Officer.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Michael Grant said, however, that the Nepalese man disembarked at the back track area, but Immigration Officers are stationed at the Ferry Stelling at Moleson Creek.
