Georgetown Football Association (GFA)/Stag Beer Futsal’s top team Alpha United collected their $250, 000 first prize and the beautiful trophy yesterday from Ansa McAl at the presentation of prizes at the Company’s East Coast Head Office, while Riddim Squad received $150,000 for finishing runner-up after they lost 5-4 in an exciting final.
Western Tigers, who defeated Santos 5-1, finished third and collected $100,000 and the third place trophy, while Santos received $50,000 and a trophy.
Alpha United’s Travis Grant was adjudged Most Valuable Player while Dorville Stewart of Riddim Squad received the best goalkeeper award, his team mate Amos Ramsay got an award for scoring the most goals in the tournament.
Ansa McAl Public Relations Officer (PRO) Darshanie Yussuf thanked the GFA for giving the Company and the teams the opportunity to make the tournament a huge success
“While the company is known for its contributions to on field sporting events, we need to give the players different opportunities so they are well rounded,” Yussuf said.
She congratulated Alpha, Riddim Squad, Western Tigers and Santos for their showing in the tournament, adding that “these are teams you often hear about and it was great to see them play in a different format which shows they have great potential”.
Stag Beer brand representative John Maikoo, thanked the GFA for affording the company the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing tournament while stating that the company will continue to focus on this area of the sport.
“We hope we are given the same opportunity in 2015 to make the event bigger and better and we look forward for your continued assistance”. He added.
GFA Competitions Coordinator Otis James said it was a remarkable year for the sport within the association and he hopes the relationship between the two entities can continue to prosper.
James further thanked the participating teams for contributing towards the staging of the tournament while declaring “It was a challenging tournament and we hope to do it again bigger and better in 2015”.
