A 40-year-old upholsterer was granted $75,000 bail after he was charged for converting $150,000 entrusted to him for purchases, to his own use.
Sherwin Prince, of Lot 136 La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to the fraudulent conversion charge.
The court heard that between March 1 and March 31, 2014 he was entrusted with $150,000 by Floyd Harris to purchase building materials but he fraudulently converted the cash to his own use and benefit.
Police Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru presented no facts to the court and had no objections to bail being granted.
His lawyer, Clyde Forde, made an application for reasonable bail. He said that Prince had no previous charges or convictions and was not a flight risk. Bail was granted and the case is set to be called again on February 5, for statements.
