Dear Editor,
In a much earlier blog on Facebook I called on David Granger to travel into the hotbed of Linden and address the internecine squabbling within the Linden constituency. Linden remains the most potent constituency within the PNC capable of decapitating the PPP dragon. David did show but it was not to bring reconciliation, it was to carry out a coup d’ etat on the peoples’ leaders in Linden then impose Sandra Jones. This conspiratorial ploy by rude invaders was foiled by a community always vigilant.
Regional chairman Sharma Solomon has now taken away the party leaders initiative, he has issued an intent to reach out to the party boss and invite him to the community to dialogue on the prevailing discontent and fall-out.
I am a strong supporter of the work done by Solomon in his capacity of Chairman of the region and as a leading member of the PNC who has demonstrated wit at a young age that is second to none within his party.
However, I do not think it is Solomon’s call to attempt to remedy the impasse between Linden and the PNC’s top guns. Solomon has nothing to fix, it is the party’s leadership job to connect with its constituencies and address their grievances. It is they who broke the pottery.
Linden and the PNC leadership has been at odds way before the Linden stand-off which has been deemed to result from an agreement the Party leader made with the ruling Donald Ramotar regime to increase electricity tariffs within the Linden community. This impasse has since been exacerbated at the last PNC congress. The pottery barn rule is, ‘’you break it, you own it.’’
Both Solomon and the Linden community are in a strategically strong position to negotiate their best interests. The must remain in that posture and allow the party leader to call on them for talks and go about their business of making the Linden community a better place with or without David Granger.
While I support efforts of reconciliation and unity it must not be premised on the party’s survival, the party’s survival cannot and must not become more paramount than the personal wellbeing of the people of Linden. Solomon’s actions must be worthy of the realization that the people of Linden continue to suffocate not only as a result of the PPP government policy of victimization but moreover, also as a result of the PNC leadership incompetence and nonchalance, they simply have not led neither have the held the government to account.
