GCA enjoyed a fruitful 2014

Despite a number of challenges the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) enjoyed a fruitful 2014. The association staged tournaments for players at all levels where a number of talents were unearthed. The Hadi’s World City Mall Inc first division two-day, the New Building Society second division 40-over and the Banks Malta Supreme U-13 competitions are in their latter stages and will be completed in 2015, however the Brain Street U-15 and the Noble House Sea Foods second division two-day tournaments were completed.
The U-15 competition saw new talent; a number of players went on to represent the victorious Guyana team in the regional tournament in Jamaica. It is evident that these players posses the ability to reach greater heights- a fact that is recognized by the clubs which wasted little time in giving these players a chance at higher levels.
Guyana National Industrial Sports Club (GNIC) won the league category of this competition, but Transport SC (TSC) took the Cup segment- they defeated GNIC in an exciting final.
Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) overcame Everest in the final on first innings of the Noble House Sea Foods second division two-day competition which was played in two zones. Javed Rasheed of Everest and Tevin Imlach (DCC) were the MVPs, Khemraj Ramdeen (Everest) and Imlach took the prizes for being the highest run scorers, while Rasheed was the leading wicket taker.
Gandhi Youth Organisation are leading the points table in the U-13 competition, followed by Everest, TSC and DCC in that order.
TSC have performed well in the NBS 40-over and are atop of zone A, while Muslim Youth Organisation and University of Guyana are joint leaders in zone B.
The first division is being headed by DCC followed by Malteenoes SC. Chairman of the competition committee, Shawn Massiah, in an invited comment said, 2014 was an excellent year. He stated that the unavailability of a number of grounds caused some hiccups and as such they were unable to finish a few tournaments, adding that more cooperation is need from senior clubs. He lauded the efforts of the ground staff and thanked their sponsors.
