Chandrika Ragnauth copped the cricketer of year award when the Good Success Sports Club (GSSC) of
Wakenaam held its annual awards ceremony on Monday night last at Mustak Mohamed residence.
Ragnauth who had a fine year with both bat and ball also grabbed the batsman of the year prize, while off-spinner Nazeer Mohamed landed the bowler of the year accolade. Former National U-15 player Imran Khan pocketed the all-rounder of the year trophy; Lokram Narine was voted the most improved player of the year while the most disciplined player prize went to Vickram Ramnarine.
Jaidat Persaud was recognised for his outstanding services rendered as the club’s Secretary; he served in the position for five years. Speaking at the ceremony chairman of the GSSC Mustak Mohamed said the club continues to do well financially despite some challenges. He lauded the performances of the players and informed that the club reached the finals of three competitions in 2014. Mohamed stated that the club is planning a tour to Trinidad and Tobago in March 2015 and a cricket coaching and education programme for young and aspiring cricketers in August. He thanked the members for their support in 2014 and called on the business community for backing, adding that there is need for more cricket to be played on the island especially the longer version.
Secretary of the club Nazeer Mohamed thanked their supporters and urged the players to continue taking the game seriously.
