A 22-year-old father of one from West Ruimveldt, Georgetown accused of pushing an elderly man into a window was yesterday granted bail to the tune of $70,000.
Michael Clarke appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer an unlawful wounding charge before Magistrate Annette Singh.
It is alleged that on December 21 last at West Ruimveldt, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Martin Lynch. Clarke pleaded not guilty to the charge and submitted an application for bail through his lawyer, Clyde Forde.
In a bail application, Forde said that his client had no priors and had attended court on his own accord. He said that Clarke, a clerk at Muneshwars Limited and father of one, was acting as a peacemaker during the incident when the older man lashed him with a crow bar.
Corporal Kerry Boswick, who prosecuted the case, objected to bail. He said that if the court considers bail, Clarke may tamper with the victim since they live in proximity. He asked, however, that if a court bond is granted, it be set at a substantial amount.
Boswick explained that on the day in question Clarke pushed Lynch into a window which resulted in injuries to the man. He said that to date the older man is complaining about pains in his legs.
Boswick’s objection was overruled, however, and bail was granted. The matter is set to be called again on January 13. The 22-year-old was placed on a bond to be on good behaviour pending the outcome of the trial.
