A 20-year-old man of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, who allegedly held a 15-year-old girl at knifepoint and robbed her on Christmas Day, was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on a robbery under arms charge yesterday.
The police say that on December 25, last at Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Jamakie Brummell, armed himself with a knife and robbed the teenage girl of her white Samsung Tablet and $10,000 cash. He denied the allegation.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Michael Grant, told the Court that around 20:30 hours that day, the victim’s mother sent her to a shop. On her way, Brummell reportedly confronted the teenager, placed the knife to her neck, grabbed her tablet and money and ran away.
Grant said that this is not the first time that Brummell is being charged with an offence of this nature. He said he was previously convicted on similar allegations and added that the defendant has matters pending in the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
When asked by the Chief Magistrate what he does for a living, Brummell said: “I don’t work. My father does send $10,000 every weekend”. Additionally, the 20-year-old claimed that this is the first time he has ever been charged.
Bail was refused and the matter was transferred to the Linden Magistrate’s Court for January 6, 2015.
