Preliminary investigations have revealed that former Bosai employee Bertram Pollard, who was killed in an industrial accident on Wednesday died when a laden Terex Truck, which was going to dump bauxite, crushed him.
The Bosai administration said that Pollard, a second year Apprentice attached to Bosai Minerals Group (Guyana) Incorporated, was the victim of a most unfortunate accident at the East Montgomery Mine.
Following the accident, there were calls made by officials at Linden for safety audit into the mining operations, citing the number of tragedies taking place under the management.
In a release to the press yesterday, the company noted that Pollard was assigned and taken to service a piece of equipment, in close proximity to the bauxite dump site when he met his demise.
“He was instructed to remain at the location by the Supervisor who was tasked to drop off other employees at their assigned work locations.
From the evidence, it was established that Bertram Pollard had moved from his assigned work location and was walking in the direction of the Bauxite Dump site, when he came into contact with a laden Terex Truck,” the release added.
The release further explained however, that investigations into the tragic occurrence are still ongoing.
According to Bosai the Ministry of Labor, Guyana Geology and Mines Commission and all relevant stakeholders have been informed and their enquiry will be conducted in due course.
The company and its employees mourned the loss of “this valued employee and are saddened by this accident, and sincerely express condolences to the family and friends of the late employee.”
A delegation led by the General Manager and other senior company officials visited the relatives of Bertrand Pollard. Bosai will take full responsibility for the funeral expenses.
The company awaits the results of further investigations into this unfortunate accident, Bosai added.
