A 32-year-old labourer was stabbed to death in his house at around 22.00 hrs on Saturday during a brawl with a carpenter who claimed to be the lover of the slain man’s wife.
Vibert Benjamin of Good Hope, Essequibo, sustained multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Suddie Hospital.
Kaieteur News understands that the 24-year-old ‘rival’ confessed to killing Benjamin, but claimed that he acted in self defense. He sustained multiple injuries.
According to reports, the suspect and Benjamin’s wife were in the couple’s home when Benjamin suddenly arrived.
Kaieteur News was told that Benjamin, the husband, tried to stab his wife but her lover held onto the weapon and urged the woman to run. A fight then ensued between Benjamin and his alleged rival, during which both men stabbed each another.
They were taken to the Suddie Hospital where Benjamin was pronounced dead, while his alleged killer was admitted under police guard. He sustained injuries to his face, head and back.
A postmortem is likely to be performed on the victim today.
