Dear Editor,
I thought I’d get an early start to my New Year Greetings and have opted to share an interesting quote by the world renowned scholar Khalil Gibran.
Twist it or turn it, 2015 will be a year of transformation in Guyana. We will either demonstrate our maturity as a people, especially the Government and combined Parliamentary parties, or we will continue to pretend that partisan politics is undermining our potential and the progress we’ve made post-Independence.
Either we will step up to the plate and do what we all know and feel is right and best for Guyana and her people or we will try to defy history and natural law by creating parallel Guyanas with parallel governments and parallel existences.
Back to my New Year’s Greetings. I take this opportunity to wish all Guyanese, wherever you might be at this time, a prosperous, abundant and happy 2015.
As we all reflect on our personal, communal and societal experiences of 2014, it is my hope that the following quote by Khalil Gibran inspires you to reach for the stars in 2015.
“Learning is the only wealth tyrants cannot despoil. Only death can dim the lamp of knowledge that is within you. The true wealth of a nation lies not in its gold or silver but in its learning, wisdom and uprightness of its sons.” Khalil Gibran
