Four detained for schoolgirl’s murder
Four persons are now in custody including two brothers as investigators continue their probe into the murder of Tiana Raghber, called ‘Tia’ 14, whose body was found at around 13.55 hrs on Saturday in a trench at Adelphi, East Canje Berbice.

The girl had reportedly disappeared around 21:45 hrs on Friday, after leaving her parents’ home without notifying anyone.
Investigators are checking on information that the victim was seen ‘sporting’ with some young men during the night. The men in custody are of questionable character and are known to the authorities.
The girl’s father, Jaiprakash Raghber, had stated that the family, including Tiana, had gone to a gymkhana on Friday and had returned home around 20:0 hrs. He stated that he had bought her two Stag beers during the time they were at the gymkhana.
They proceeded to watch television and Tiana, who is the eldest of two children, later, brought his food upstairs and reportedly went to fetch him something to drink.
When she did not return, he sent his 10-year-old son to call her, but he came back and reported that she was not around. Relatives then began a frantic but fruitless search for the teen.
Mr. Raghber stated that he did not report his daughter missing because it was not the first time that she had left home without informing anyone.
The police had warned that she would be sent to ‘Girls School’, if she ran away again.
The distraught father suggested that his daughter slipped out of the house and jumped the fence or gate.
He said that during the search, he received information that a body was found in a trench at Adelphi. His worst fears were confirmed when he arrived at the scene and recognized it was his daughter.
When she was found she had wounds to her eye, forehead and face. According to information the police were tipped off by an anonymous caller.
The man said that his cell phone was missing and he suspected that his daughter had left home with it, because it was a regular thing that she would do.
The police are still hunting a few more suspects who had an altercation with Raghber on Christmas Night. During that altercation which took place further down in the village, six men had attacked Mr. Raghber. It is alleged that his daughter was present. The men had reportedly then threatened the family and the girl that they will get her soon.
