The police in Berbice intercepted a car with four suspects inside, including one of their former colleagues and two ex soldiers.
Four men were intercepted in a rented taxi and are in custody. They were two ex soldiers and an interdicted policeman who was charged twice before with armed robbery and the taxi driver.
According to information, the police were on patrol along the Whim Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice around 23:00 hrs on December 23 when they spotted motor car PPP 1505 which had been rented from a car rental service on the Corentyne. The four men were inside the slow-moving vehicle along the Whim Public Road.
The vehicle was stopped and the men were asked to disembark. Checks of the vehicle revealed a chopper hidden among some clothing. The clothing included numerous long sleeve shirts, socks and kerchiefs.
The three ex-military men are all from Georgetown while the taxi driver hails from the Upper Corentyne area.
During interrogation the men all gave conflicting reports. The men stated that they hired the taxi to transport them to Georgetown. The taxi driver stated that he did not know the men and had picked them up as passengers from Georgetown.
Information revealed that the car was rented from the car rental service since December 2, and that the rental was in default for over two weeks.
