At a time when most families are celebrating Christmas day together, Chris, Christine and Kishan Jailall will without their father today, while Samaroo Jailall’s wife, Sharon was heart-broken when she got the shocking news that she had unexpectedly become a widow.
The local cricket fraternity was thrown into mourning one day before Christmas with the sad news that first Vice-President of the East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) Jailall had died at the Woodlands Hospital yesterday after feeling unwell. ECCB President Bissoon Singh expressed shock at the death of Jailal. Jailall was only 42
It is suspected that Jailal, who was never seriously ill and was one of hardest working members of the East Coast Board, died from a Heart Attack.
An emotional Singh said the Executives and the East Coast Cricket Clubs regret the passing of Jailall who was recently re-elected to serve as first Vice-President of the ECCB.
He was also the former President and the current Secretary of the Lusignan Sports Club. Jailall, who held a Masters degree in Business Administration, was the Finance Officer of the Guyana Improving Teachers Education Project (GITET), the University of Guyana Structure and Technology Support Programme (UGSPS) and the National Hinterland School Feeding Programme (NSP). He also served as Assistant Secretary of the Demerara Cricket Board and Secretary of the Competitions Committee 2009-2011.
“It is with great shock, sadness and disbelief that our dear Brother Sam has passed away. His untimely passing will greatly affect all of us and has unquestionably created a huge vacuum in the Administration of Cricket on the East Coast, Demerara and by extension Guyana. Samaroo served Guyana’s Cricket diligently and with distinction, in several capacities.
He was a self-effacing individual who always put his priorities in order but choose cricket in particular, above everything else. He was an able Cricket administrator who did everything for the betterment of the Sport. He will be deeply missed,” Singh said.
“We would like to express our sincere condolences to his relatives and friends especially his wife Sharon and three children Chris, Christine and Kishan. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time and may the memories of Samaroo and the love of family surround you and give you strength in the days ahead. Rest in Peace our dear Brother,” the ECCB Head said.
