Dec 24, 2014 Letters
Dear Editor,
It was some years ago I remembered reading a letter where the author challenged remarks made by now deceased television personality, Clem David, even pointing out that his ‘slip was showing’. This statement “your slip is showing” suggested that David at the time was making statements that he did not conform to as he was not ‘practicing what he preached’ and therefore did not have the authority or moral right to make the remarks he did.
Without venturing into the issue that was being addressed by that letter writer, let me to make reference to a situation that I believe is even dire than what was amplified back then.
I am alluding to a situation involving the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Ms Shalimar Ali-Hack, the woman with the highest position in the land. I was not only disgusted but horrified by an article published in the Sunday (December 21, 2014) edition of the Kaieteur News which revealed a damning state of affairs involving not only the DPP but her husband, Sheik Moeen Ul-Hack, both influential personalities in the Muslim community.
The DPP had advised that fraud charges be laid against three senior New Building Society (NBS) officers who were fired. But the troubling aspect of this situation that would have otherwise been a normal one is that the very DPP dabbled in the matter before it met her professional attention.
This occurred at a meeting at the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) which the DPP attended together with her husband who is known for having an executive portfolio within the CIOG.
Interesting to note is that the DPP’s input in the matter was questioned by Former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Henry Chester, when he was retained to review the case following a complaint filed by one of the sacked NBS officers, Maurice Arjoon.
The fact that the DPP did not find it imperative to recuse herself from the matter is one that speaks volumes, and I dare say not only is the DPP’s ‘slip showing’ but all of her undergarments are very exposed.
She should therefore opt to not wear her Muslim garb altogether and maybe then we can all better understand her motive for bringing her good office into disrepute.
