Dear Editor,
Rephrasing of the Damion Marley song: “Welcome to Jam Rock” with Welcome to Guy Rock
Guyana – crime, poverty and political corruption in Guyana.

Welcome to Guyana, territory where the hustlers thrive at
The costs are in your purchases
It’s in your van back
It’s in your hand bag, your knapsack, it’s in your backpack
The costs make your girlfriend lose contact

Some people do not believe this, they only comment like analysts
While at the clubs enjoying beverages
Telling impressive stories, and posing like real investors
And don’t know the real hardcore

If they can’t go to Pegasus, Princess or Marriott
Then they join the hustlers and wouldn’t think twice to con you
Don’t let them befriend you, unless you really hustle a lot too
Or bad things will come at you

When Georgetown man stop laugh and see reality
VAT stop pay and politicians stop splurging
GRA try but they can’t enforce it
People mind made up and no clapping

Some say them corporate citizen, but a corporate bunny rabbit
Independent minds needed like a good habit
So don’t play game if you don’t have it
Hardcore stands alone

Welcome to Georgetown
Out in the streets they call it mayhem
Where poor people do not know justice
Political huskers all around
When they win election, politicians become ghosts and phantom
Yet the youths get blind by stardom

Independent minds to youth, show your hands if you with me
To see the poverty upset me
Politian’s suit don’t fit me, when they win elections they trick we
Then all they do is take your money

Come on let’s face it, CXC education is basic
And most of the youths ill prepared for it
And when they fail it, then they don’t stand a chance at all
Then street life replaces it, sports may save it
Most times they don’t stand a chance at all

And that’s why little youths play street ball
With a tennis roll in their back pocket
No sneakers on their feet and no money in their pocket
And stay on the streets at night until sleep captures them
Those without homes, they stop traffic

And they take a meal where they can snatch it
They will avoid the cops, so they don’t lose it
And from night until morning they keep prowling
If you see them coming, best hightail it
