With the time upon us for the much anticipated Guyana Cup $10M horserace meet organised by the Port Mourant Turf Club in collaboration with the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Racing Stables, all systems are in place and a number of horses have arrived for the big meet.
On Wednesday a number of top horses imported from overseas deplaned at the Timehri International Airport and according to the organisers a number of them are expected to be in action come Sunday.
Stables such as the Jumbo Jet, Shariff and Bacchus, Elcock and Jagdeo stables have replenished their stocks and are expected to be among the winners on race day.
Preparations have been completed and the Port Mourant Turf Club is in the pink of condition and a lot of fast times are anticipated.
Nine top of the line races are carded for the day with over 85 entries now entered and a few more late entries are anticipated which should swell the entry list to over 100.
The list of sponsors led by beverage giants Banks DIH Ltd has also swelled to include Edward B. Beharry & Company, Sheriff Racing Stable, Poonai & Poonai, Taljit Enterprise, Mark Morgan, Toolsie Persaud LTD, Sankar Auto Works, Atlantic Mining Supply, Colin Elcock Racing Stable and Inshan Bacchus Trucking Service and racing stables, Candy Corner, Asuriea INC Insurance Company, South Land INC, Kris Jagdeo Construction Company, Rising Sun Turf Club and Romel Jagroop Construction among others.
A ding dong battle is expected in the feature D1 and lower 1600M event which has a total prize package of $3M with the winner set to take home a whopping $1.5M and the Banks DIH Trophy.
The lineup will be led by Guyana Cup Champion CP Got Even and includes the inform Treacle, Grande Roja, Got to go, California Strike, Jack in My Style, Curfew Tower and Red and Lovely.
The horses entered for the Co-feature 1600M event for 3 years old West Indies bred horses for a appetizing $1M and trophy has all the top runners plus a few new imports lined up to compete and could very well be the race to see. Fans will be eager to see the rematch between Just Call Me Bass and Unsettled. However Release the Beast, Royal Empire, Settling Jet, Shooting Star and Quiet Dancer have all won the event already. But the horse to beat might be the newly imported Spit Fire which recently flew in with an impressive record.
There is the Two year old event for West Indies Bred horses with a winners money of $600,000 and trophy over 1200M.
There is an impressive lineup assembled for the E and lower 1500M event for the first prize of $600,000 and trophy. Among them are Captain Crook, the Message, Swing Easy, Right To Rule, Battle Hymn, Mission King, Good Will Boy, Bridal Stone Corner and It’s My Turn.
Another great race is expected in the G1 and lower 1200M race for the $500,000 and trophy.
Appealing Harvest, War Craft and Silent Night will renew their battle with Fresh Again Damascus Dream, Princess Alicia, Monsoon, Rosetta, Joyful Victory, Mission King, Royal Empire and Top Of The Line looking to top them.
Mid Night Blue will be looking for another bright day in the two year old event for Guyana bred horses for the $300,000 price tag and trophy over 1200M. But will first have to get past Atlantic Storm, It’s My Choice, Loch Song, Settling Star, Keep on Swinging, Mr. Lover Lover and it’s My Lucky Day.
The other events to be contested are the H1 and lower 1200M race for a winner’s money of $250,000, the ‘I3’ and lower 1200M event for a take home pay of $200,000 and the J3 and lower 1200M event for a $150,000 first prize. Among those lined up to compete in those events are Savion, Affinity, She So Special, Swift Away, De Gump, Smarty Light, Regina, Amazon Warrior, Miss Messiah and Merriam among others.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the organizers.
