Arsonists before midnight Thursday night went into the Lusignan Golf Club grounds and set afire two pieces of equipment – a John Deere small tractor and a greens Mower – used in maintaining the Golf Course. According to Club Captain ‘Chen’ Deo, the two watchmen told the Police that some six masked men, armed with different implements, set the two pieces of equipment afire then moved away from the scene.
The Police are investigating the matter. Club Executives are mystified at the incident but rule out the idea that members who have been aggrieved by disciplinary action in recent times would resort to such measures, especially since the Club has experienced deliberate equipment fire before. Thankfully, the arsonists were specific in their project and while glass in the building near to the burning equipment was broken, there seemed no other obvious signs of targeted damage. Heat and smoke from the fire blackened some parts of the building and the ceiling inside the bottom floor, after the heat broke windows.
Meanwhile, on the positive said, Captain Chen Deo advises that there will be a Club sponsored teams-competition (Rest of the World versus Lusignan Golf Club) for golfers today. Tee-off time is 12:15 and alternative measures have already been implemented to ensure the greens are in fine condition for today’s tournament.
