A Guyana Power and Light Company (GPL) worker miraculously escaped death on Saturday despite being hit by high voltage that left him dangling for several minutes from a utility pole at Cinema Road, Melanie Damishana on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD).
Onlookers stared in horror as the man whose name was given as Junior appeared lifeless as he dangled several feet up the pole he was working on.
It took his shocked co-workers several minutes to free him.
The young man was placed in a vehicle and rushed to the Georgetown Hospital. However this newspaper was informed that he regained consciousness while on his way to the city.
He was subsequently treated and sent away.
“He alright now, nothing bad ain’t really happen to he. Is so with current,” one of his colleagues told this newspaper.
A few weeks ago a technician from the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company was electrocuted while he was carrying out work on a utility pole at Vryhied’s Lust also on the East Coast of Demerar.
