Linden’s Milerock and West Demerara’s Uitvlugt Under-13 and Under-16 teams are the new champions following last Saturday’s Kayo’s Academy and Rickland ‘Tallo’ Hutson 4th Youth Challenge Football Fiesta contested at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground in Linden.
There were three female teams contesting in the Under-16 competition, the Little Divas of Georgetown, West Demerara Queens and a Linden side.
Milerock emerged the champions in the ten team Under 13 competition as they beat Uitvlugt in the final where Milerock’s George Stephens was named the Most Valuable Player while his coach Errol Dainty was the Best Coach.
However, the tournaments’ Most Disciplined Player was Jonathan Copeland of Net Rockers with Malcolm Dainty named the tournament’s Highest Goal score with four, while Tiana Smith of the West Demerara Queens female team as the winner of the Most Outstanding Player award. Botofago were named as the Most Discipline Team.
In the semifinals of the Under 13 ten-team tournament, Uitvlugt beat Net Rockers 1-0 and Milerock got past Kayo’s Academy.
Playing in the semifinals of the Under-13 competition, Uitvlugt overcame Net Rockers 1-0 and Milerock edged past Retrieve Lions.
Twelve teams contested the under 16 tournament and Uitvlugt triumphed with a 1-0 victory over Net Rockers.
Uitvlugt’s Terrence Accra won the Most Valuable Player in the Under 16 category and teammate Keiron Duke, who netted a goal in the final, walked away with the Highest Goal Scorer title grabbing four in the competition.
Uitvlugt won against Silver Shattas in their semifinal, while Lions defeated Demerara Queens 2-0 in the other semifinals.
Uitvlugt’s Kevin Fraser was named the Best Goalkeeper and the West Demerara side was also handed the Most Discipline Team award as the Best Coach Prize was taken by Joel McKinnon of Kayo’s Academy.
Trophies and medals were given to the winners and runners-ups, while the MVP winners collected pedal cycles. Among the sponsors was Andrew Major of New Era Entertainment.
The female West Demerara Queens football team, which gave a good account of themselves during the championship, will be rewarded with a trophy and medals from the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation.
