The Guyana Mixed Martial Arts Karate Association held its 1st annual Karate Championships last Sunday at the Black Cobra Karate Club in La-Parfaite Harmony W.B.D. The association has 5 Branches which are located in Soesdyke, Diamond, Herstelling, Parfaite Harmony and at Independent Street Middle Dam. All the branches took part in the Championships which saw good performances from the participants.
The Results of the Tournament are as follows:
Shadow Martial Arts Karate Club Located in Soesdyke, captured 3 Gold, 2 silvers and 1 bronze in which Kevin Ramcharran took home a Silver for Kata and a Gold for Kumite, Calvin Ramcharran took home a Gold For Kumite and a silver in Free style Kata and Junior Fields got a Gold medal in Kumite.
Diamond Karate Club captured 7 Gold, 6 Silvers and 3 Bronze in which Steven Persaud took home a gold medal in Free Form Kata and Self Defence, Stephen Singh captured a gold in Traditional Kata and a Silver in Kumite, Portia Schepmyer secured a silver in Self Defence and Free Form Kata and a Gold in Weapons Kata, Kian Koodtatalli secured a Bronze in Kumite, Raul Joseph a Bronze in Freeform Kata, Kumite and Traditional Kata. He also got Silver in Weapons Kata. Toshan got gold in Traditional Kata and a silver in Kumite, Brandon Dindial got Gold in Kumite and Silver in Traditional Kata.
Independent Karate Club Captured 4 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze in which Someshram Banasar secured a Gold in both traditional Kata and Kumite, Daniel captured Gold in Kumite and Silver in Kata. Brandon Deolall captured Silver in Kata and Kumite and Surajram secured Bronze in Kumite.
Black Cobra Karate Club captured 10 Gold, 8 Silver and 9 Bronze. Jonathon Sooklall secured 1 Gold in Traditional Kata and a Bronze in Kumite, Joshua Sooklall secured a Silver in Kata. Shiloh Sydney captured a Gold in Traditional Kata and Kumite and a Bronze in Self Defence, Philip Jaikisson secured a Silver in Kumite and a Bronze in Weapons Form.
Daniel Chandler secured Gold medals in Kumite, Self Defence, Traditional Kata, Weapons Form and Silver in Free Form. Mondel captured Bronze in Kumite, while Nickolas secured a Silver in Traditional Kata and Kumite, Jaffar Ramnarine captured a Gold Medal in Traditional Kata and a Bronze in Kumite.
Zafar Ramnarine secured Gold in Traditional Kata and Free Form, while Aaliyah Ramnarine secured Silver in traditional Kata.
Christopher secured Bonze in Kumite and Traditional Kata and Silver in Self Defence and Free Form. Out of all the Clubs, Black Cobra Karate Club captured the most medals.
