Determination and a positive attitude were in the front seat when Mae’s School came from behind to hammer Georgetown International Academy 8-3 in a friendly football match played at the Police Ground in Eve Leary last Friday.
Down 3-1 at the end of the first half, Mae’s shifted gear in the second segment of the game and applied Formula One speed and precision against the winded GIA group.
Strikers Darshan Persaud and Alec Hopkinson both had dream runs in the game and formed a formidable attack force.
GIA took early control of the match and played more aggressive and attacking football which resulted in them rushing to a 3-0 lead within 25 minutes, as Mae’s struggled to find their rhythm.
However, a pep talk at the break from Coach Mark ‘Sevens’ Charles and Games Master Ronald Austin worked wonders as Mae’s resumed to the field a different bunch.
Taking full advantage of GIA’s fading energy Mae’s applied the pressure with Persaud and Hopkinson being chief trouble makers.
The sizable crowd that included Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steve Ninvalle, parents and several policemen watching from Traffic Headquarters, were treated to a crash course on how to score easy as marksmen Persaud and Hopkinson marched into the GIA defence with impunity.
They both scored three goals apiece. Immanuel Trotman netted the other two goals for the boys from Surbryanville.
