A policeman on anti crime patrol duties was involved in an accident on Thursday on the Corentyne Highway. However, on this occasion the police constable is not to be blamed.
Rajendra Gowkarran, 61, of Hampshire Village, Corentyne, is known for his continuous drinking habit and wandering through the street of Corentyne. He was on one of his regular bouts on Thursday morning.
Around 09:30 hrs a police anti crime rank attached to the Whim Police station was on one of his regular patrols on a Scrambler Motor Cycle CF 7175. He was heading east along the northern side of the road when in the vicinity of Hampshire, Gowkarran reportedly staggered out from behind a parked truck and into the path of the motorcycle. There was a collision in the middle of the road. Both men ended up sprawled on the ground.
Gowkarran suffered a broken jaw and other injuries and has been admitted a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital. The police officer suffered abrasions to his right hand and other parts of his body. He was treated and sent away.
Investigations are continuing.
