The fifth annual Berbice Inter-School Chess Championship is to be staged on Tuesday at the New Amsterdam Multilateral School, New Amsterdam Berbice.
Schools from throughout Berbice are expected to participate in both the male and female categories, with play among both the secondary and primary schools.
NAMS are the defending champions following a devastating performance last year in which they won four of the six trophies on offer, including the first and third prizes in the team category and the second and third prizes in the individual category.
Black Bush Secondary School who won in 2012 and 2013 placed second in the team category.
The competition is organised and coordinated by Krishnanand Raghunandan, an executive committee member of the Guyana Chess Federation. Play time is 09:00 hrs. (Samuel Whyte)
